Roughriders drop to 1-5 in B.C.

Aug 6, 2011 | 7:32 AM

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will finished off the first third of their season with a 24-11 loss to the B.C. Lions.

The Roughriders are now in the West Division basement with a 1-5 record after losing to the B.C. Lions, who entered the game with a 0-5 record.

The Lions broke out to a 17-0 lead when Travis Lulay hit Geroy Simon for a 63-yard touchdown pass with 10 minutes left in the second quarter. The Roughriders would find some life late in the first half as they were able to march down the field for a field goal and then near the end of the half Darian Durant hit Chris Getzlaf for a 13-yard touchdown pass.

The Lions would hold a 20-10 half time lead and the Roughriders would miss out on opportunities in the third quarter to try and get back in the game.

Roughriders kicker Eddie Johnson missed field goals from 42 and 40 yards, as Saskatchewan scored just one point in the second half.

The Roughriders tried to mount a late comeback as Durant hit Getzlaf again that would have placed the ball deep in Lions territory with under three minutes to go but Getzlaf was called on a questionable pass interference call.

Saskatchewan will now head into the second third of the season facing many questions on how things have gotten off to such a slow start.
