From P.A. to NYC, Leot Hanson talks about the success of the Sheepdogs

It has been a whirlwind week for Saskatoon band, the Sheepdogs.

Ever since they were announced as the first unsigned band to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine things have been very busy.

“It’s a total game changer now. We’re climbing the charts in radio, we’re doing Fallon, we’re on the cover — it’s insane. I haven’t really been able to stop my head from spinning,” said Leot Hanson, the band connection from Prince Albert.

Tuesday night the band made their debut on late night television, performing their song, I don’t know, on the Jimmy Fallon show.

“It was killer, it was awesome,” Hanson said.

“We actually got a really good plug … they filmed us yesterday, downtown times square New York … tons of people crowded around, cameras everywhere.”

Fallon introduced the band, praised them for their hard work and music, talked about the Rolling Stone cover and help up the new album.

The Rolling Stone cover comes at the end of a contest, where they were voted in as the other bands were eliminated.

“We came to kind of like them personally, those who got to know them,” said Christian Hoard, senior editor at Rolling Stone magazine.

They paid their dues with 30-plus hour drives across the country and doing their share of poorly attended shows, he said.

“There was also kind of a sense that they were underdogs, no pun intended … they were the only Canadian band, didn’t have the big industry presence behind them and I think sort of endeared them to us too.”

Hanson said Facebook has gone crazy since the news was released, where he’s been getting hundreds of messages.

The band is so thankful for the support from Canadians that they are considering a number of free shows across the country, Hanson said.
