Colin Cobin of Delisle is the 2011 Northern Men's Amatuer golf champion.  Cobin who also won The Sr. Men's Lobstick championship in June beat Greg Swenson in Monday's match play final.  Cobin took over a close match on the back nine and feels making a difficult par on the 10th hole was a turning point.

“I was in the left treeline and I said to Sherry (Anderson) my caddie that I had to get it to the back of the green somehow and try to make 4, because he (Swenson) was right down the pipe, sadi Cobin. I didn't get to the back of the green but I made a great up and down to get par and from there on  he made a couple bogeys on the back and I took advantage of that.”

Cobin defeated Lobstick Men's champion Andrew Zaba in the semi finals and also scored victories over Ted Bach and Glen Beliveau conquoring a field that included 14 other former champions.

“Before we came we looked at the field and said Oh, it's a great field, said Cobin, people who are on the Amatuer team this year, and Mid Amatuer team and it feels good to win because you've got the Davey Stewart's, and the Torrie Coughlin's and Brad Phelps and there's twenty more guys (who could win the tournament).”

Cobin has been a mainstay of this tournament for close to twenty years.  He credits the course and the people.

“It's probably 17-18 years I've played in this tournament, said Cobin. The people are great. We have great hosts Leo and Pauline McDougall taht we stay with, good friends that makes it comfortable to have a bed to sleep in and companionship.”

Martin Ring beat Dave Stewart to win the 1st flyte. Neither made the championship flyte in the strong field of 160. They were among many strong players that inluded fellow Prince Albert golfers Cam Bergen and Danny Klughart who were unable to make the cut off of 76 for the championship flyte.
