Canada Food Day encourages eating local

Jul 30, 2011 | 3:17 PM

The farmers' market was a buzz this morning.

Local food is highlighted today as part of Food Day Canada, where people across the country are encouraged to eat locally grown food.

Amy Jo Ehman is a food writer and author of “Prairie Feast: A Writer's Journey Home for Dinner”. She says eating locally is better for your health.

“Sometimes the freshest and most wholesome food is what is grown close to home. It hasn’t travelled, it hasn’t been processed, and all those sorts of things you may want to avoid,” said Ehman, adding that the best place to look for local food is at a Farmers' Market.
