Regina mail sorted in Winnipeg
In Regina, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) says mail delivery has slowed down because Canada Post has been sorting mail out of a Winnipeg facility due to a local staff shortage.
John Caines with Canada Post says in times of high volume moving mail to larger facilities is common practice, and that the mail is still being delivered on time.
“Up until this week, for the last couple of weeks, if it was mailed on Thursday or Friday it would have trucked an eight-hour drive down to Winnipeg and sorted. Then it would be driven back in plenty of time to be delivered on Monday,” said Caines.
Meanwhile, Regina’s local CUPW President Bill Johnson wants sorting to remain in Regina.
