Local lakes filling up fast

It doesn’t come as a surprise that with all the recent rain there are renewed concerns for flooding.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority is keeping a close eye on water levels at Emma, Christopher and Anglin Lakes, which are now near capacity.

“Not quite at the similar peaks that occurred in June and July of last year, but we are very near that,” said Ron Crush with the Watershed Authority.

Levels have risen anywhere from two to six inches in recent weeks, he said.

“Not at a level of immediate concern, but again people need to be aware that the levels are high and any new water or rain is going to have a direct impact on the lake levels,” Crush said.

Further north, water levels are still rising at Montreal Lake.

An access road on the reserve has been washed out and there are fears over whether the culverts can handle all the extra water, said Dwayne Rowlett with the watershed authority.

To help control the flows, the water is being diverted through road breaches.

Rowlett said he also heard that some people have left the community and are staying at hotels in Prince Albert.
