Roughriders want discipline for eye gouge

Jul 26, 2011 | 7:03 AM

Many people have returned from Montreal with blood shot eyes before, but Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Weston Dressler has a much better excuse.

Dressler found himself in an unusual position against Alouettes defensive back Dwight Anderson late in Sunday's game. Replay clearly showed Anderson had his hand jammed in Dressler's helmet and the apparent eye gouge has left Dressler's left eye a little swollen and blood shot.

Dressler says he's fine and was very much the diplomat when talking to reporters about the play.

“I really don't have much to say about him or the way he plays the game but I'm just happy our team went in there, played a great game and were able to get the win.”

Roughriders Head Coach Greg Marshall does say the team will be contacting the league to make sure Anderson's play gets the proper attention from league brass.

Dressler says his eye will be fine.

Some of his teammates were a little less diplomatic regarding the eye gouge.

“You don't condone anything like that and you don't have to go that far but I know Dwight off the field so that makes it tough. He went too far but of course I don't agree with it and don't see any room for that,” says quarterback Darian Durant.

“I think Anderson's pretty cheap on his part when it comes to that and hopefully there will be some repercussions for it,” added receiver Chris Getzlaf.
