Food festival a vendor utopia

Jul 26, 2011 | 6:40 AM

It’s not every day someone can try out more than one restaurant at once and not have to travel more than a few meters to do it.

From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day until Thursday, Taste of Prince Albert is going on at Kinsmen Park.

The food festival is basically a sensory advertisement for local restaurants, but the event also attracts other kinds of vendors wanting to establish a local presence.

The Mini Shop has been regular vendor at Taste of Prince Albert for three years now.

Kassia Felske is with the Mini Shop, a seller that sets up at various events and locations rather than having a set restaurant location all year.

She said a typical day at this food festival can get quite busy.

“In the morning is kind of lighter not as busy, there’s a lunch rush, and then it’s kind of slow throughout and then at supper it’s a big rush, like probably a two hour rush, you’re pretty busy and pretty hectic at supper time,” Felske said.

As a seller that’s been to many local events, Felske said this is a great event for their kind of business.

She said the people who attend Taste of Prince Albert have the mindset that they are there to eat something they love or try something new.

“It’s a good business. If you have the right product it sells good. It gets s people out so it’s nice.”

Besides the obvious draw of the different food booths, Felske said the music is her favorite part.

Wendy Hardcastle isn’t selling food or drinks at Taste of Prince Albert but she is hoping people will develop a taste for her booth anyways.

Hardcastle’s Honeybunch Henna, Face Painting and Crafts is at the festival for the first time this year.

She said she has been doing her craft for years in other communities and even other provinces but is very excited to be doing something local.

“I’m really hopping to be really, really busy, but I’m really hopping is for people to know that they can get me to come and do parties.”

She said she is hoping to use Taste of Prince Albert as gateway to get into other local community events.
