A movie outside

Jul 23, 2011 | 7:22 AM

Fast Five is coming to an outdoor screen in Prince Albert, before if even goes to DVD.

The latest instalment of the Fast and the Furious series is being brought to the screen by the Prince Albert Downtown Improvement District Association (PADIDA).

“It’s a 100-foot inflatable screen that they bring down. So it we’ll have that in Memorial Square and we just encourage people to bring blankets and lawn chairs or whatever you need to enjoy the movie,” said James Banman, manager of PADIDA, about this Tuesday’s event.

This is the fourth year the outdoor movie has run, and while in the past they have had children’s films, the long, bright Saskatchewan summer evenings means a late start time.

“We’ve tried children’s movie in the past … children tend to need to be in bed by the time the movie starts,” he said.

“We’re gearing it a little bit more towards teenagers and up this year, because I think they will be more willing to come out to something a little bit later.”

The movie is sponsored by SaskTel and SGI, which means PADIDA can offer it free of charge to the public, however donations are being given to a local charity, he said.

“This year they are selling root beer donated by A&W and popcorn to raise money for the Prince Albert Literacy network,” Banman said.

The literacy network is a local non-profit organization, that sometimes people don’t really think of, he said, which is why the downtown association wanted to support it.

The film is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. It is weather dependent and for latest updates people can check the Facebook page.
