Two year sentence for robbery, trafficking

A Prince Albert man has pleaded guilty to robbery and trafficking charges and will serve almost two years in prison.

On Monday, 20-year-old Pouriya Asari of Prince Albert changed his pleas for robbery, possession of a weapon and trafficking to guilty before a scheduled preliminary hearing.

The court heard that on Feb. 17, Asari set up a drug deal with the intention of robbing the drug dealers.

When two people arrived to make a transaction, Asari pulled out a gun and proceeded to rob them.

He managed to take 2.5 pounds of marijuana, keys and a cell phone.

One of the victims of the robbery called the police and gave them Asari’s license plate. Asari was arrested shortly after at a gas station on Seecond Avenue West.

During initial court proceedings, he pleaded not guilty, but changed it before a preliminary hearing could proceed.

Asari also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without a license and careless use of a fire arm from a separate incident.

The court heard that on Dec. 17, 2010, Asari and another man pulled over on the side of a road and shot at a coyote. An onlooker called the police and the two admitted to not having firearms licenses.

For all the charges, Asari was sentenced to two year, less a day, plus time he had served in pretrial custody.
