Saskatchewan’s expenses are up

On Thursday, the Saskatchewan Finance Minister Ken Krawetz, came out with the first quarter provincial budget report.

As expected, spring and summer flooding did water down the Saskatchewan economy.

“We’re very fortunate though, in the province of Saskatchewan, that overall, the economy of the province is doing well,” said Krawetz.

He said expenses are up $107 million from the budget mainly because of flood but also taking a big cut is the new contract set out by teachers.

NDP critic Trent Wotherspoon claiming not enough consolation has been done in flood zones undercutting how much money will be needed.

“We would argue that those are inaccurate and inadequate,” said Wotherspoon.

Roads are another area of increased costs and contention.

Revenues are also up a little taking expectation for a surplus in the current budget to a mere 11 million.
