Doctor says lyme disease cases extremely rare in Saskatchewan

Alberta has issued a Lyme disease warning after five infected ticks were found in Edmonton, but a Saskatchewan doctor says people in this province shouldn't be overly concerned.

Dr. Brenda Cholin, medical health officer for the Prairie North Health Region, insists that such cases are extremely rare.

“We found that the vast majority of ticks that are found in this province are the ones that can’t carry Lyme disease,” said Cholin.

Only one black-legged tick in Saskatchewan has ever been found to carry Lyme disease.
