Swimming ban at Waskesiu Lake main beach

Parks Canada has banned swimming at Waskesiu’s main beach after Monday’s storm took on toll on the town site’s sanitation system.

A large volume of water coupled with periodic power failures overloaded lift stations around the town site resulting in a small amount of sewage backing up into the lake.

Patt Dunn with the park said the amount was small enough that the effluent could not be visually detected, but closing the main beach was still the right move.

“There’s no sign of it,” she said. “We can’t see it but we know that the release happened.”
