Vendors do good business at Craven Country Jamboree

Jul 16, 2011 | 8:03 AM

Vendors along Main Street at the Craven Country Jamboree say things started out pretty slow, but business has since picked up in a big way.

At peak times as many as 23,500 people can be in the grandstand for a show.

Though this year has not sold out, thousands of people will be in transit between the campgrounds and Main Street.

Andrew Urquhard is the manager of the Main Street General Store, located right next door to the beer gardens. He said he is pleased with the way the festival is shaping up this year.

“People that have come in here… we haven’t experienced anybody that has been rude or anything. Everybody has been friendly and getting along with everybody. So it’s great. We will be back next year for sure,” said Urquhard.

He says the purchases have been pretty consistent.

“A lot of hats… sunscreen, because it’s scorching out. Aloe vera, anything like that,” Urquhard said.

One item the General Store did sell out of rather quickly was condoms.
