Craven attendees keep police busy

Jul 16, 2011 | 5:14 PM

RCMP have been working steady out at Craven.

A total of 53 people have spent some time in jail so far since the annual festival started on Thursday.

Of those 53, 30 were from Friday night. Mounties said the charges range from being drunk in public to causing a disturbance or having outstanding warrants.

Friday night, RCMP also helped EMT transport a woman to Regina who had overdosed on pills.

RCMP Sgt. Craig Cleary said that numbers are pretty steady compared with last year.

One difference is more calls are coming from the campground than previous years.

One incident Friday night did see some people throwing stuff at police – adjustments have been made to stop that.

Festival goers arrested Thursday

Some people in the Craven Valley were a little too eager to party.

Forty-three tickets were issued on the first big day of the Jamboree. Seventeen people spent time in jail. Two individuals lost their licenses for 24 hours.

Another man was also injured when he tried to move a generator. It landed on his hand, breaking his wrist. He was rushed to hospital for surgery.

RCMP were also called on to help with a fire in a camper. No one was hurt in that incident.
