RCMP won’t release details on Kim Walker case

Jul 15, 2011 | 7:28 AM

The RCMP isn't planning on shedding any more light on the events that led up to the shooting death of James Hayward by Kim Walker in Yorkton.

Kim Walker was sentenced for the manslaughter Wednesday.

After the sentencing hearing Walker's lawyer, Balfour Der, insisted that police are just as culpable because they never arrested Hayward for dealing drugs.

Der alleges that Walker took an eye witness into the RCMP office in Yorkton who was willing to tell police all about Hayward's drug business.

But RCMP spokesperson Paul Dawson isn't going to discuss the details of the case, if there ever was.

“The proper place for any complaints against the RCMP is the Commission for Public Complaints,” Dawson said.

He says Walker and Der can file an official complaint if they want to.

“They are certainly welcome to do that. They are entitled to their opinions in this matter,” Dawson said.

As for the speculation that Hayward was an RCMP informant, Dawson insists the identity of sources is privileged information, and is never shared.
