Saskatoon city councillor Maurice (Moe) Neault dies

The first words Maurice (Moe) Neault said after being elected for the first time as a Saskatoon City Councillor — “You've elected a tiger here.”

On Tuesday, we learned the sad news that Neault has passed away at the age of 61.

One of Neault's civic colleagues, Councillor Glen Penner, says Neault felt warm overnight so he went outside and sat down, and passed away.

Neault leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Sandra, his two children Nicole and Aaron and four grandchildren. On the city's website, Neault calls his wife his best friend.

Neault recently retired from his many years at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon. Prairieland has sent out a release expressing profound sadness at Neault's passing.

A city council meeting, scheduled for tonight, has been cancelled due to Neault's death.

He was serving his third term as a city councillor.

Penner says Neault had an amazing knack to pull people together, and that was best shown when Neault got the public and catholic school boards to agree to build schools on both sides of the Shaw Centre.
