Vacation Bible School – Anglican Diocese of Saskatchewan

Jul 8, 2011 | 11:42 AM

Well it is the start of another year. Tickets are bought, the van is rented, and the frantic hunt for extra supplies has started. ‘The Team’, Brenda from London, Ont, Everett from Montreal and Jillian also from Montreal, are arriving the evening of July 8th, home base this year is the Harper household, which – thanks to the Parish Rectory – has plenty of room.

‘The Team’ are one of the six traveling groups from Crosstalk Ministries, based out of Montreal, (www.crosstalkministries.ca) that train to do four week-long programs across Canada. They focus on a new and exciting theme each year, and this year’s theme is “On Fire.” ‘The Team’ is only part of the program as the main part is the Parish volunteers, that billet, feed, help and pray, and of course the children. It is a time to start building a strong foundation between the children and adults within both the church community and the community at large.

The excitement builds as the weeks fall into place. This year ‘The Team’ will be teaching from the Acts of the Apostles with the over all theme being called “On Fire,” which sounds most intriguing. They will visit the following communities this summer (see below for where, when and how to register):

Spiritwood
Melfort
Cumberland House
La Ronge

We will start our month of traveling in the Diocese with a week at Christ Church, Spiritwood. The Reverend Doug Miner will host the team for the week of July 11 – 15; the week opens with registration on Monday at 9:45. If you have children, or grandchildren between the ages of 4-12 in the Spiritwood that week, head over to Christ Church for a week filled with songs, crafts, games, and devotion.

If you cannot join us in Spiritwood, maybe you can attend our next week from July 18-22 in Melfort. The Reverend Pat Langlios is hosting ‘The Team’ at All Saints church in Melfort, registration is at 9:45 am on Monday, July 18 and runs from 10-3 each day.

The week of July 25-29, ‘The Team’ will be at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cumberland House. The Reverend Park Buck will be hosting ‘The Team’, registration will be at 12:45 on the Monday, July 25, and the program will be running from 1-4:30 each day. At the time of this writing, Cumberland House has had its only road washed out and the community is under threat of flooding. I ask your prayers for this community and an extra prayer that the dangers will pass and that ‘The Team’ will be able to bring the Good News of Christ to the children and community of Cumberland House.

Our final week, August 1-5 will be in the scenic area of La Ronge at All Saints Church. The Reverend Gary Smalldon will be hosting ‘The Team’ and the program will start on Monday, August 1 at 9:45 am. ‘The Team’ will also do one day at Sucker Lake and Hall Lake during the week. After La Ronge it will be back to Harper home base for a couple days of rest before ‘The Team’ flies back to their home on Monday, August 8.

I ask, as the VBS Coordinator, for your prayers during this time of travel, that God will work His never-ending miracles in the hearts of all the young and old, participating in the weeks of VBS. That 'The Team' be nurtured, energized and grow in faith and that our travels and time together may be filled will God’s spirit, word, will and protection. Finally, I ask for patience, guidance, an open heart, and a youthful spirit. Have a great summer, I know I will!!
