RCMP identify body found near Bruno

RCMP have identified the body of a man that was found near Bruno.

Victor Mateyshin, 84, was discovered on Sunday morning. He was reported missing on Sept. 22, 2010, to Colonsay RCMP. He was last seen on Sept. 16, approximately 16 kilometres north of Dana.

Dana is about 40 kilometres west of Humboldt.

Mateyshin had been alone. He was known to be in good health with no known illnesses.

On Sunday, CN Rail employees notified the Humboldt RCMP they had discovered a body face down in a slough just off a grid road near the railroad tracks.

Mateyshin’s vehicle, a 2005 white Crown Victoria, has also been recovered following a search by the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team. The car was found fully submerged, about 100 metres away from his body.

An autopsy is expected to be done later this week.

Bruno is located about 35 kilometers northwest of Humboldt.
