Price of gas pushes inflation higher: Statistics Canada

The high price of gas is pushing the national inflation rate higher, according to Statistics Canada.

The month-to-month rate from April to June 2011 went up 0.7 per cent. That pushed the inflation rate to 3.7 per cent, its highest in eight years.

Saskatchewan’s inflation rate climbed to 3.4 per cent in May from 2.6 per cent in April.

Statistics Canada says the price of gas is a major factor across the country, with a 30 per cent year-over-year jump in May. Food is also more expensive.

Regina’s inflation rate for May is 3.4, up from 2.7 in April. Saskatoon’s is 3.1, up from 2.3.
