Police experience busy weekend

Graduation season and the nice weather led to a spike in calls for the Prince Albert Police Service last weekend.

Police say that between Friday evening and Monday morning they responded to 399 calls for service —148 came in on Friday night alone.

It was extremely busy, said Sgt. Kelly Mclean.

“People are more active and there are more people out on the streets.”

The majority of calls were for intoxicated persons, disturbances, loud parties and evictions.

Other notable calls included a short vehicle pursuit, Saturday. It started at around 10 a.m. in the East Flat and ended in the unit block between 18th and 19th Streets West with the suspects crashing into a pole. Two females, 13 and 15, were arrested and are facing numerous charges.

On Saturday night, a 37-year-old man was found bleeding from the head in the 100 block of First Avenue West. He was transported to the Victoria Hospital and treated with stitches for his wounds.

Police arrested Victor William Michel, 37, and charged him with assault causing bodily harm.

Police also responded to two vehicle rollovers that resulted in criminal charges against two people.

The service was properly staffed to handle the volume of calls, said McLean, who explained staffing numbers are adjusted for this time of year.

“We analyze past statistical data and we try (to) be prepared for events and situations that the summer months bring us.”
