Prince Albert MP returns to familiar committee

Prince Albert's Member of Parliament has been appointed to sit on two key committees in Ottawa.

Randy Hoback is returning to the Standing Committee on Agriculture & Agri-food, a committee he served on prior to the May federal election.

Hoback said he's looking forward to tackling issues such as the controversial changes to the Canadian Wheat Board with a majority government.

“Before the election, we had a minority government so we actually had more opposition members on those committees, so it was really tough to get stuff through the committees, back into the House and voted upon without it being amended or changed in such a way it no longer met the original intent of the law,” he said.

“Now we have a majority in those committees so it’s going to be a little easier. That being said, we will still respect what opposition members have to say when the committee meets in the fall.”

Hoback was also appointed to the Finance Standing Committee, considered one of the more sought after portfolios in Ottawa.

“We will be sitting this week and likely Monday going through the budget,” he said.

Hoback said they want to get the budget through committee as soon as possible so it can be brought back to the House of Commons and passed before the legislature breaks for the summer.
