Trial begins for man accused of shooting Mountie

A man charged with shooting an off duty RCMP officer will stand trial today.
The incident happened in Carrot River five years ago. Constable Gregory Toogood's arm was shattered by a bullet.
The 21-year-old accused has pleaded guilty to holding a firearm and using violence to provoke fear, but will contest a charge of discharging a firearm.
A charge of aggravated assault will also be dealt with at the trial.
