Hate crimes up in Saskatoon: Statistics Canada

Jun 8, 2011 | 6:51 AM

The numbers suggest there's more hate crime in Saskatoon, but police say the figures don't tell the whole story.

According to Statistics Canada, hate crimes went up from none in 2008 to 19 the next year.

But Alyson Edwards with Saskatoon Police says they aren't seeing an increase in hate crimes by any means.

“What we are seeing is a difference in the way we collect our data and the way we then report it to Statistics Canada.”
