Former Prince Albert broadcaster hoping to fulfill his dream

Jun 5, 2011 | 8:29 AM

A familiar name for people in Prince Albert is very excited about the idea of maybe working in the NHL.
Brian Munz, who calls the play-by-play for the AHL's Manitoba Moose, once called the action for the Prince Albert Raiders.

Munz is now step closer to his dream with the sale of the Atlanta Thrashers to a Winnipeg group. The official broadcast rights have not yet been awarded.

“You know my four years in Prince Albert was unbelievable and I wouldn't be in the position I am now if I wasn't at CKBI and with the Raiders. We hope it works out but it's a waiting game right now for sure,” said Munz.

Munz said he has been getting lots of positive reaction from home.

“I've had a lot of texts and emails from people in P.A. and around the province. You know this club whatever it's gonna be called is gonna be part of their fabric too because it allows another option for people to come watch the best league in the world,” he said.

The deal is not set in stone yet. It still requires the approval of the NHL's board of governors. A vote will take place June 21st.

“The early indication is that no one will have ill effect towards what's going on here,” said Munz.

“Everything is positive and the NHL is back.”
