Estevan flood situation not looking any brighter for farmers

Three months of constant flooding has residents in Saskatchewan’s south east exhausted.

Forecasts in the area call for mostly sunshine next week, although rain is predicted for Tuesday. Residents in the rural municipality of Estevan are used to it by now.

The area’s Boundary and Rafferty Dams are still filled to capacity and overflowing making it impossible for most farmers to get seed into the ground.

Reeve Kelly Lafrentz says the year is a complete write off.

“Farming is pretty much over with for now in this area, for the year. They won’t be another crop in this area. It’s over,” said Lafrentz.

He said most farmers in the area are now trying to figure out how to get by with little or no crop coming out of the ground.
