Dogs saved thanks to Northern Saskatchewan nurse

The Prince Albert SPCA is thanking a nurse in Northern Saskatchewan.

She called them on Wednesday, when she found a mother dog and seven newborn puppies under the steps of her Stony Rapids home. The dog was just skin and bones.

With the help of Pronto Airlines, who flew the dogs to Prince Albert for free, they got the mother and the seven pups cleaned up and put into foster care.

The puppies were only born on May 28.

On arrival, SPCA staff named the one-year-old mother Hope, explaining without the nurse, she wouldn't have had any.

They are reassuring the public that the dog is not in kennels at the SPCA – the spots in the facility are for local dogs.

The puppies will be ready for adoption on July 15.
