Host families needed

May 26, 2011 | 6:42 AM

Groups in Prince Albert are looking for host families to provide a more engaging experience for youth from around Canada and the world.

Both Global Partners and Canada World Youth are looking for host families in and around the city to take on youth for a few months and provide a deeper understanding of the local culture.

With Global Partners, the youth are Japanese, high school students and about 40 host families are needed by the time the students arrive in the summer.

Canada World Youth hosts youths from both across Canada and Nicaragua between the ages of 17 and 24. They’ll be arriving in September.

Both groups provide host families with a stipend to help cover expenses.

Shayne Lazarowich, who manages the local chapter of Canada World Youth, said that the youth get much more out of an international experience when they spend time with a local family.

“That’s the best way for them to learn about the communities is through the families,” he said.

“That’s the best way to get in touch with the heart of the Canadian and Prince Albert communities.”
