Dave Stewart turned in a final round 73 on Monday to record a 4 shot victory at the May Day Masters Golf Tournament at Cooke Municipal. His three round total was a very respectable 215.

Cold and windy conditions made the final round tougher after two straight days of sunny and warm conditions. It had an influence on the scores and the way he approached the final round says Stewart.

“Obviously the ball is not going to go as far, you're not going to hit as many greens and it puts pressure on your putting and chipping. it was a matter of staying patient.”

The Prince Albert product successfully defended the title he won last year in sensational fashion. Stewart chipped in for birdie on the first playoff hole in 2010 to defeat Trent Kacher. This year Stewart was in command holding a three shot lead over Greg Swenson heading into the final round and was determined to make the pack catch him.

“I wanted to get off and make some pars and not shoot myself out of it early by having a stupid hole like a double or triple (bogey), but I was able to keep it consistent today so I was happy with the way I played.”

Stewart recorded one of the top final rounds in the championship flyte as Swenson carded at 74 to finish 4 shots off the pace (219). Duck Lake's Bill Cameron also shot a 74 to take third, two shots back of Swenson. There was a three way tie for 4th at 222 between Martin Ring, Larry Malvieux and Colin Cobin who both shot 73's while Ring carded a 75. Ashley Ziegeman fell out of contention with a 77 to finish 7th at 223.
