RCMP officers injured in Swift Current chase, collision with teen

May 24, 2011 | 11:39 AM

A 15-year-old driver and his 30-year-old passenger have been charged after a chase and collision injured three RCMP officers early Sunday morning.

The teen is said to have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the incident. He does not have a license.

It began when RCMP noticed a car travelling west in the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada highway at Swift Current. Officers attempted to stop the driver, but he continued and got turned around using a frontage road so he was going west in the westbound lanes.

At one point, the 15-year-old stopped abruptly as the RCMP were trying to read the license plate causing a second RCMP vehicle to collide with the first RCMP vehicle and scrape the 15-year-old's car.

The 15-year-old and the 30-year-old — Russell Martin Blake of Neville — were not injured. Both are alleged to have played a role in the incident.

They are charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, flight from police causing bodily harm. Blake has also been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Three RCMP officers involved experienced minor injuries. They were treated in hospital and released.
