P.A. woman in record deal contest

May 24, 2011 | 6:25 AM

A Prince Albert woman is up for a chance to get signed by a record label.

Allison Bohmann, 22, is in a contest put on by EMI Virgin Records and Capital Records. If she wins, she lands a record deal with EMI Canada.

The contest is three months long, but as soon as one ends, Bohmann said the record company will start a new competition.

“It’s huge,” she said about the opportunity. “EMI Canada is probably the biggest record company in Canada.”

She only found out about the competition on Thursday, when she was on the EMI website.

“I got in as soon as I found out,” she said, explaining this round started in March. “I am a little bit behind, but it is cool to sign up and see what happens.”

Bohmann said if she doesn’t take home the prize in her first round she will keep entering.

She has been hard at work searching for a record label for the past two years and her music has been on the radio in the United States since November 2009.

She hopes if nothing else, it gets her some publicity and some more contacts in the industry.

“We’ve had some interest from different companies (in the past), but at the time they weren’t the right company or things fell through so I am just hoping this could push me over to getting an actually signed paper and getting to release a record,” she said.

To vote for Bohmann go to moartist.com/allieb. There you can sign up, become a fan and vote for her daily.

She said it gives people who visit the site the opportunity to read about her, watch videos and listen to her music.

“I have actually been working at this for a really long time and I feel with my music I have something to say in every song that I write, and it’s relatable, and I’m just ready to finally get to sing and play all over the world and that’s my dream,” Bohmann said.
