Investigation into human remains continues

The Prince Albert Police Service continues to investigate A car fire where human remains were found.

Sgt. Kelly McLean said a patrolling officer noticed the car on fire in a driveway at the 900 block of River Street West at about 1 a.m. on May 21.

“We’re talking about 10-foot flames coming off of that vehicle. So our priority on arrival was to clear the residence. There was a real danger at the time that the flames would reach the residence,” said McLean.

“It wasn’t until the fire department started to battle the actual flames that we confirmed that there appeared to be at the time human remains inside the vehicle.”

McLean said he can’t comment as to where in the vehicle the remains were, or what the remains consisted of.

“There were enough human remains that our members were able to confirm that it was human remains, but there’s not enough left after the fire to confirm, for example, gender or age, or any of those things,” said McLean.

McLean said they are treating it as suspicious, and forensic identification investigators are working to identify the remains, as well as the cause of the fire.

For anyone with information on the case, call the Prince Albert Police Service at 953-4222, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
