Power line sparks grass fire

A power line that shorted and collapsed on to a fence caused a small grass fire near Spruce Home, this morning.

Buckland Fire was dispatched and quickly brought the fire under control.

SaskPower arrived a short time after to deal with the live wire.

According to James Parker, spokesman for SaskPower, about six people were without electricity for a couple of hours, but the service has since been resumed.

“I wouldn’t call it a common occurrence, but it can happen,” he said.

“Electricity involves a lot of heat and if I line comes down it can start a fire, but I wouldn’t call it a common occurrence.”

When a fire is started by a downed line, Parker said they work with the local fire departments to get the blaze out.
