Last Day of the Old Fire Hall

May 16, 2011 | 4:05 PM

This photograph was taken in 1975 on the last day the Fire Department was in the ‘old fire hall’. The truck in the center of the picture still resides in the building. In 1976 the Prince Albert Historical Society took over the building and opened the Heritage Museum on June 1, 1977.

Many renovations changed the fire hall into a museum, and were not complete until 1980. In 1982, an addition on the north side of the building, the Connaught Room, increased the display area; the outside east wall was covered with brick from the Connaught School.

The Museum has remained with very few renovations since that time, except of course for the name change to the “Historical Museum”. June 1 marks the 34th summer the Society has operated out of this building. We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you this summer.

The Prince Albert Museums open to the public May 24, 2011 from 10am to 6pm, 7 days a week.
