Review of South Pacific – Performed by St. Mary Highschool at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre

May 14, 2011 | 2:13 PM

St. Mary High School has outdone themselves with their production of South Pacific. There is one more show tonight at 7pm at the E. A. Rawlinson Centre.

The production was excellent on every level. I was blown away by the acting. Every character was believable despite the fact the the setting for this play both chronologically and geographically is a long way away from Prince Albert in 2011.

The quality of the vocal performances was top notch and the sets were very professional looking. Technically, in spite of many scene changes with set pieces flying in and out, the stage crew performed as flawlessly as the actors on stage. In addition, a very accomplished live band (tucked, smartly out of sight behind a set piece), provided beautiful accompaniment.

The play has a timeless messaage and poignantly and subtley talks about the fallout of racial discrimination.
