Region returns to normal

May 10, 2011 | 10:23 AM

Programs have returned to normal in the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region after a one-day strike by a health union, Monday.

The Health Sciences Association of Saskatchewan members who were on strike have returned to work or are set to return to their next scheduled shift.

Their day of picketing caused disruption to some programs.

“Yesterday the health region cancelled or rescheduled appointments for about 190 patients and clients, in a variety of outpatient programs,” said Doug Dahl, communications officer for the region.

About 140 of these clients were involved in cancelled cardio and pulmonary rehab exercise programs.

Those clients will simply go back to their regularly scheduled classes, while appointments for other clients will need to be rescheduled.

Other program staff members that were involved in the job action, included mental health, addictions, therapies — occupational, physiotherapy and speech language — dieticians, acquired brain injury, home care assessors, public health inspectors, dental health, harm reduction and epidemiology.

The region will provide information about any disruptions if there is further job action by the Health Sciences union.

If the event of job action, the public is encouraged to call their health professional’s office ahead of time to ensure that the service is available on that day, Dahl said.

Updates will also be available on the health region’s website at princealbertparklandhealth.com
