City hopeful for development deals by fall

The City of Prince Albert is hoping to have deals drawn up for development in the Green Industrial Park by the end of the fall.

Members of the Green Industrial Park steering committee, city staff and others were in attendance to talk about the development.

Just two years ago, the idea for the park was an idea that the city wanted to pursue with the creation of the committee.

The goal was to attract businesses that would fill in the gaps left but subcontractors at the pulp mill.

“It was one of those opportunities when the time was right and the business community really say that,” said committee member Rob Dalziel.

Dalziel explained that the location was ideal because of its proximity to the airport, a highway and a rail line, while also being away from the city.

Currently, the workers are installing infrastructure to the site including a major lift station to supply water and sewer.

Robin Woodward, who’s in charge of marketing the site, said that interest in the location is growing steadily.

“It’s been good to talk about it with businesses, but people have been saying that want work on the ground,” he said.

“There’s a handful of businesses that are interested, but now that the infrastructure is in the ground it is quickly becoming a reality.”

Woodward said that the city hopes to have infrastructure work completed by the fall and for agreements to be reached by that time.

“If companies are looking to establish that’s the timeline to work towards—having a decision made and things lined up on the business side early fall,” he said.
