Second girl sentenced in robbery

The second of three teenage girls charged with the robbery at the Husky Gas & Food Store in Prince Albert has been sentenced.

The young woman sentenced today received 12 months of open custody, followed by six months of community supervision and six months of probation.

The incident occurred on March 7, 2011. The 17-year-old girl robbed the store of cash and cigarettes after one of the girls she was with brandished a steak knife.

It is a less severe sentence than what her counterpart received on Apr. 6.

That girl received a one-year jail sentence and six months of community supervision.

“The girl who got closed custody had a worse record, plus she was the one with the knife,” said Crown prosecutor John Morral, explaining the difference.

One of the 17-year-old’s conditions is to have no contact with her co-accused, as they were not only charged with the robbery at the Husky, but also with a dine-and dash at WK Kitchen, and stealing a vehicle.

“Obviously we need to break up their group,” said Morral.
There is just one girl left to be sentenced in relation to the robbery. She will be back in court at the end of May.
