Lakeland District for Sport, Culture and Recreation Is Offering Summer Sport Experiences for Communities

Apr 26, 2011 | 8:51 AM

The Lakeland District for Sport, Culture and Recreation will once again offer summer sport experiences for communities within our District.

This year, we did not receive our usual funding, but we are anticipating a partnership with the provincial sport governing bodies (PSGBs) to cover any costs associated with instruction and equipment.

Therefore, we will do our best to advocate for the requested sports for your communities. Also, we would like to highlight that the Saskatchewan Summer Games is coming up in Meadow Lake from July 29 – August 4 in 2012.

We have noticed that the Lakeland District does not have any active clubs in the following sports & we would love to increase awareness and participation in them for the 2012 Summer Games: Tennis, Triathlon & Canoe/Kayak !

We do ask that you have an indoor location due to weather conditions, in addition to the outdoor facility that you may need – please let me know where your activity/ activities will be held during the program so I can relay this to the instructor.

We will try to accommodate any sport or date request as best as possible within the months of July & August. Some popular choices in the past have been lacrosse, fencing, tennis, football, soccer and karate. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me at 953-1623, ext. 3.

Recruiting volunteers & early registration or drop-in will be up to you, although it will probably be in the instructor's best interest to know how many youth will be involved in your day camp beforehand.

We would recommend a minimum of 10 youth for team sports & 5 youth for individual sports. For our reports to the PSGBs and for the Lakeland District, I would ask that you report back to me with the number of male/ female participants and ages of the participants after the camp.

Please get back to me with your requests prior to May 20th, 2011. This program is based on a first come, first serve basis. I will try to have your communities’ requests confirmed by June 10th, if not sooner.
