Great Outdoor Project for Muskoday Thanks To Local Work and Community Initiatives Grant

Community Initiatives Funds just approved a $78,500 grant to help build capacity in the Province for other communities like ours to develop an outdoor education program for themselves.

The Great Outdoors project will utilize our successful outdoor ed program in which we take aboriginal youth up North each summer to experience camping, canoeing, hiking, biking, fishing and exploring the great Churchill River System.

The fund is to assist Muskoday in promoting throughout the province to FSIN’s Sport, Culture, Recreation, Youth Board, Tribal Councils, First Nations and Youth at Risk programs that happen in five of our cities.

During the Fall of 2011 till spring of 2012 we will assist and subsidize communities to come to workshops and take training in grant writing, outdoor ed skills etc.

They will than bring youth from their community to our Northern Camps throughout the summer to experience what we call the Great Outdoors.

It is our hope that we can help establish the outdoor ed program in their community be it small or large. After the summer camps another two day workshop will be hosted in which we provide communities with a blue print on how to establish their program and how to look for funding etc.
