CMHC offers post-flood advice

As many lakes and rivers across Saskatchewan reach their peaks or are starting to level off, if you have a property affected by the water, it's important that you start getting ready to clean up, if you haven't already.

Anand Mishra, a Senior Research Adviser at CMHC, said there are consequences if you don't dry out homes or buildings quickly.

“Maybe substantial damage to the structure of the house, basically they will have to go through massive renovations after the fact.”

Mishra adds there can be serious health concerns too.

“It can lead to mould problems, that can become a health hazard for people with asthma.”

It's also important that you be safe during the clean up, by wearing rubber boots, along with shutting off power to affected areas, to avoid being electrocuted.
