Conservative candidate Brad Trost owns Planned Parenthood comment

Students at the University of Saskatchewan put Conservative candidate Brad Trost on the spot Thursday after the incumbent MP alluded to the federal government cutting funding to Planned Parenthood.

Trost made the comments during a recent pro-life convention in Humboldt.

During a U of S forum on Thursday, he wanted to clarify that he wasn't speaking on behalf of the federal government.

“Planned Parenthood has been defunded for the last 16 months. I have no idea if it's going to continue, that's specifically why I was encouraging people to get involved with the democratic process,” stated Trost.

Trost says he understands that his position is different than Stephen Harper's. Harper has stated quite clearly that the abortion issue is closed for debate, but he hasn't specifically said whether or not funding will be cut if the Conservatives win the upcoming election.

Saskatoon-Humboldt Liberal candidate Darren Hill actually believes Trost owes the people who work for Planned Parenthood an apology after making a particular comment while in Humboldt.

“Getting their snouts back to the public trough. How completely disrespectful,” said Hill, reiterating Trost's earlier comment.
