Katepwa Beach residents watching water levels

Apr 20, 2011 | 5:19 PM

It's now a wait and see approach as cabin owners at Katepwa Beach anxiously wait and see what water levels will do this weekend and if they'll have to deal with any flood problems.

Down the way at Sandy Beach, Ernie Bereti, Don Stockan, and Allan Heselton pile up the last few sand bags on Bereti's lake front property.

While times have been tense, Bereti talks about all the help that has come from friends and strangers.

“So many people around here are just helping,” said Bereti. “This lady came up to me Tuesday and noticed I needed some help. She came back three hours later with a couple of tractors that where hauling sand bags from nearby. I didn't think that kind of neighbouliness existed anymore but it does. It's there.”

Stockan also praises the countless people who have lent a helping hand.

“Tuesday, I was out here and met a couple from Milestone. They have no tie here. They just came out to help,” said Stockan. “There were some young guys from Regina who heard that volunteers were needed, so they came out to help. It's been really impressive.”

So as the three wait and see what happens next, they all say it's been a breath of fresh air to see all the good samaritans come out and lend those helping hands.
