Saskatoon in line for housing boom
Rosewood, Stonebridge, Willowgrove, Blairmore- they won't be enough to fuel the need for new homes in Saskatoon.
That from Mayor Don Atchison, who says according to the Saskatoon Region Association of Homebuilders, the city is set for another building boom. Atchison says Association CEO Allan Thomerat appeared at city council Monday night to warn that the city should prepare the infrastructure now for a boom later.
“Before, a development could take 20 years to fill out. That's not the case anymore. We're living in a new era now. Two-hundred-fifty lots a year for the city of Saskatoon- that's looking in the rear-view mirror,” Atchison said.
He maintains the city is already trying to deal with increased demand. “We're pushing, trying to get out a thousand units, and that's not enough. That's why we have homebuilders coming to council right now, pleading with us to get more serviced lots,” Atchison explained.
