Prince Albert man possibly averts dog theft

There have been numerous reports in recent months of dogs in the Prince Albert area disappearing without a trace.

Dave Mulhall was worried that his 12-week-old puppy, Kea, was next.

Mulhall, who lives in the city's East Flat area, said late one night he let his dog out into the front yard.

When he went back to let her in, a strange man was reaching over their fence for her.

“It looked like he was reaching for the back of her neck…..not like he was petting her,”said Mulhall.

“I said don't touch my dog and he said what's your problem, and I said nothing, just don't touch my dog.”

Mulhall said he asked the man what he was doing. The man said he was only trying to pet her, but Mulhall said he didn't buy it.

“I felt it was pretty suspicious to have someone walk down your street at ten o'clock at night and take offense to you not wanting them to pet their dog.”

Mulhall said eventually the stranger walked away.

Now Mulhall said he is very careful with his dogs. He and his wife always supervise the dogs when letting them outside.

Police says they haven’t had any recent reports of dog related thefts. They are encouraging people who have any concerns to call them.
