PotashCorp donates $27 million for emergency air ambulance program in Saskatchewan

PotashCorp has donated $27 million toward the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) to develop an emergency air ambulance program in Saskatchewan.

PotashCorp CEO Bill Doyle says the largest single donation in Saskatchewan history, and possibly in Canada, will provide air ambulance service to about 90 per cent of Saskatchewan's people.

“It's there and it should give you piece of mind that they can live in rural communities and have great access to first-class health care,” said Doyle.

Premier Brad Wall points out Saskatchewan is a big place, and the emergency helicopter will be vital to the province.

“The pump jacks aren't on Albert Street, and the mines aren't on College Avenue. They're in more remote areas of this province,” said Wall, commending PotashCorp on the hefty donation.

“Today is why this company's way more important even then just as a great creator of jobs and investment in Saskatchewan.”

Doyle insists the $27 million is a multi-year commitment, and the new air ambulance is expected to be up in the air sometime next year.
