The Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists (SIA) handed out the hardware this week.

Five people and one organization were recognized during the SIA’s annual awards banquet in Candle Lake.

Larry White and Blair McClinton received the Distinguished Agrologist Award, while Wade and Kara Annand from Nipawin received the Outstanding Young Agrologist Award.

The Honorary Life Membership award went to Earl Mickelson of Birch Hills, while the Conservation Learning Centre was the recipient of the Agriculture Excellence Award (AGEX)

The awards are given out to those who go above the normal call of duty, said Les McLean, executive director of the organization.

“(People who) become very involved with different aspects of the institute and agricultural in general,” he said.

The awards recognize agrologists in forestry and agronomy to the environmental side, said McLean.

Since forming in 1946, the SIA has been responsible for enforcement of the Saskatchewan Agrologists Act and defines professional standards for individuals practicing agrology.

The Institute also provides leadership on agricultural issues and concerns at the provincial level. Provincial Institutes of Agrologists and Scientific Societies are affiliated together in the Agricultural Institute of Canada (AIC).
