Friends remember Montana Netmaker

Friends and family are remembering 14-year-old Montana Netmaker for smile, spirit and her ability to project her happiness onto others.

“She had a lot of friends, she cared about everybody,” said Colton Friesen, her boyfriend.

“When she saw someone sad, she never just let them be sad, she had to go and talk to them.”

Netmaker was the victim of a hit-and-run on Central Avenue that occurred around 8:30, Monday night. She was taken to Victoria hospital with critical injuries, where she later died.

The Grade 8 student at Osborne School's death has left a mark on more than just Friesen.

She had an upbeat attitude, including this self description on her Twitter account,”I'm the author to my own life, but I'm writing in pen, so i can't erase my mistakes … hmm … unless i use white out, but that doesn't sound cool.”

There has been an outpouring of support for Netmaker online.

A Facebook group was set up shortly after her death was confirmed this morning.

It already has more than 100 members and messages keep being added — many refer to Netmaker as an angel and a good friend.

“God is taking an angel home … Rest in peace Montana, we will all miss you. You'll never be forgotten,” wrote one friend.

Another said, “(it’s) hard to accept I’ll never see you again, I’ve known you since I was little, you’re one of my best friends… (there) wasn’t a time where I didn’t catch you without a little smile.”

Two friends were riding bikes with her and heard the vehicle coming, but before Netmaker could get off the road she was struck by a truck, Friesen said. He said that the two girls she was with ran to a nearby friend’s house to call the police and when they got back to the scene they saw the paramedics loading Netmaker into the ambulance.

“They were just shocked,” Friesen said.

Beau Lac Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements. The date and time for the funeral is pending.
