Students, faculty and members of the public gathered to hear President Peter MacKinnon make his last address on the state of the University of Saskatchewan Monday morning after announcing his resignation earlier this year.

McKinnon started with the positives, doing some rightful bragging about everything from athletics to capital expansion projects like the Health Sciences building.

“The last 10 years have seen the largest expansion and renewal of campus infrastructure in the history of the University of Saskatchewan,” MacKinnon proudly stated.

However, he brought up a few issues as well.

“A very significant problem is that of deferred maintenance,” said MacKinnon. “The overall deferred maintenance program becomes more serious with really each passing year.”

McKinnon also talked about having good relations not only with the City of Saskatoon, but with the federal government.

“In particular, announcements on campus of multi-million dollar federal government contributions to the cyclotron, phytotron and dairy facility.”

MacKinnon notes the school has a lot to be proud of when it comes to fiscal management, saying they generally balance their budgets.
