Hoback ready for possible election

Randy Hoback, MP for Prince Albert, said he would like to see the Conservative government’s 2011 budget move forward, but the reality is setting in.

“The fact is that the Liberal party, the NDP party and the Bloc are going to vote to bring us down. I believe the vote tomorrow at 1:45 in the afternoon will be one of those votes where it’ll be a confidence measure, and we’ll be off and running in a new election,” said Hoback.

The Liberal party introduced a non-confidence motion on Wednesday, and if all three opposition parties support the motion, hesaid an election could be declared over the weekend.

Hoback said Prime Minister Stephen Harper will have to visit the Governor General’s house, where Gov. Gen. David Johnston would declare an election.

“For sure by Monday morning we’ll be out knocking on doors and kissing babies,” he said.

While Hoback said he is disappointed the budget most likely isn’t going forward, he said his party is ready to win over voters.

“We’re prepared to go to an election anytime, you have to with a minority government,” said Hoback.

“The economy is still fragile. There are things we’d like to see done. This budget is actually a very good budget for the people in the riding of Prince Albert, so it’s frustrating not seeing that move forward.”

Hoback said if an election is called, voters will head to the polls on May 2.

Hoback said he plans to fly back to Prince Albert on Saturday.
